Is it ok to work for free...EVER???

Here's a controversial question…is it EVER ok to work for free or when is it ok to work for free as a freelancer?

My perspective on this subject may irk many of you who pride your hard-work/value for monetary means. However, I have a different work ethic than most. In my opinion, working for free could be quite beneficial & liberating for an individual's self-growth and skill-set.
